About MeHi there. Let me tell you a little bit about me...
I bought my first spinning wheel when my daughter was just a few months old (she turns twenty-one in October 2007!), and although I have much less time for spinning these days I still drag out the wheel on a regular basis. Over the years I have produced hand knitted jumpers for family members, very fine pure wool shawls for both of my sisters' first babies and even sold some of my 'products' on consignment. One of my creations, a handspun jacket with an Australian flavour, was sold to a Japanese tourist for over $400. Not bad when you consider that the entire fleece cost less than $20! Although my specialty is spinning very fine wool, usually Merino with a micron count of around 22, over the years I have also spun coarser fleece, and experimented with silk, cotton, alpaca and angora. Although I have spun commercial prepared wool, I prefer to spin the fleece straight off the sheep's (or goat's or alpaca's) back. I love the smell and feel of raw wool and get a lot of satisfaction from creating beautifully fine lace work. Each new fleece is a challenge, a challenge to find the right tension and treadle speed to produce light even yarn with just the right amount of spin. There is nothing like the feeling of taking a newly plyed skein off a Niddy Noddy and to have it hang straight!
Of course, spinning is not all that I do. I have three children, two boys and a girl and I am about to become a grandmother for the first time in a month or two. To pay the bills, I work full time as the Finance Manager for a large state government organization. Then just to spice things up, I recently bought a motor-bike to ride on the weekends! Isn't she beautiful!I have had a licence for thirty years but haven't actually ridden a bike for over twenty years. The older I get, the more I feel the need to rediscover the things I used to love doing and riding a bike is one of them! It is just a shame that I can't carry the spinning wheel on the back...

My name is Deb and Spinning-4-Pleasure.com is my site. I started the site because I really enjoy spinning and have done for over twenty years. Other crafts and hobbies come and go, but spinning seems to be the one constant for me.
